MATTRESSES

Compromising on your choice of mattress can mean compromising on your quality of sleep.  At Hollywood Beds, we believe sleep is important, so let us guide you through the choices available.

If your mattress is more than eight years old, it’s time to make sure it’s still giving you the comfort and support you need for a good night’s sleep.  A good mattress should help to relieve pressure on your joints and body.  However as your mattress wears over time, it loses the support it once had. This happens gradually, in fact so gradually that very often you don't even realise it until your sleep starts to suffer or you wake up with aching joints or back pain.

So, what should you look for when buying a new mattress? Let's have a look at the different range of mattresses available including those which utilise the very latest materials and technologies to help you choose one that's right for you..

Coil Sprung Mattresses
A coil sprung mattress uses a steel coil support system. There are several types of spring systems used by manufacturers, including those with springs connected into a single unit or continuous flexi-springs. The number of coils in a mattress can vary along with the design and gauge of wire used. The spring itself is then covered by upholstery materials, including various foams, fiber, cotton, wool etc.

Pocket Sprung Mattresses
A pocket sprung mattress also uses a steel coil as its main support system but with the additional benefit of having each spring nestled into its own fabric 'pocket'. This creates a more independent support system with better weight distribution and less body roll. Spring counts can vary dramatically, however it's not always a case of 'the more the merrier'! Each pocket sprung mattress must be assessed on its own merits including the quality of interior fillings used.

Pillow-top mattress
Pillow-top mattresses have an additional layer sewn onto the top of the mattress for a sumptuous feel. This layer can be constructed from a variety of fiber or foam materials and can even be combined with small pocket springs .

Hybrid mattress
A hybrid mattress combines a steel coil or pocket  spring system with one or more types of foam, such as reflex, memory (viscoelastic), latex, or gel.

Block Foam Mattresses
Block foam mattresses use one or more types of foam as the support system. The foam may be polyurethane, viscoelastic or latex, gel or other specialised medical grade foam. The foam is manufactured in various densities which alters the mattress comfort, feel and heat dissipation features.

Gel Mattresses
Gel mattresses use foam that contains gel in the product’s support system, upholstery layers or both. The gel is added to the foam using different types of technology. Gel foam offers good heat dissipation.

Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory foam (viscoelastic) mattresses use a high-density polyurethane foam as the support system, in the upholstery layer or both. This foam is temperature sensitive and contours closely to the shape of the sleeper.

Latex Mattresses
Latex mattresses use latex foam as the support system, in the upholstery layers or both. Latex may be made from natural plant- or petroleum-based materials,is pliable and extremely durable.

Medical Grade Mattresses
Medical grade foam was originally developed for use in hospital environments to help alleviate pressure points on a patient's body. It is now available to purchase for domestic use through selected brands.
